We're experts in acquiring advanced technologies and systems.
The Electronic Systems Center (ESC) is one arm of the larger Air Force Materiel Command, which equips the Air Force with weapons systems, logistics and the other tools they need to complete their mission. At ESC, we evaluate and purchase technologies that are so advanced and complex, most people wouldn’t even be able to imagine them. From ensuring the safety of commercial air travel to arming soldiers and airmen with the most advanced communication capabilities and more, ESC's work helps protect lives around the globe.
The Work You’ll Do Here
When you work with us, you’ll be talking with defense and civilian government agencies about their needs and helping them find solutions that can meet those challenges. You’ll also select and monitor leading private-sector firms to implement these plans — and have the satisfaction of seeing these programs come to fruition.
You can work with ESC at one of our four main locations across the U.S., or in our headquarters at Hanscom Air Force Base, outside Boston, Massachusetts. Apply your expertise to a wide array of careers, including Systems Engineering, Project Management, Contract Management and Finance and Budgeting.
This is a mission that places you alongside diverse, highly-competent engineering, business management, acquisition and IT professionals, as well as uniformed military counterparts who rely on your work to carry out their jobs. Together you’ll supervise the design, development, test, production deployment and maintenance of tomorrow’s communications and information systems for our government, military and civilian customers. You’ll pull together today’s most innovative technologies and give them a new purpose.
Our Projects
ESC is the Air Force’s leader in managing 400 significant programs and projects — from worldwide secure communication systems to giant personnel and logistics management applications. Our systems operate in the U.S. and around the world as well as in space and cyberspace. Some of our projects include:
- Defending America by upgrading the early warning radar system for the North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Command headquarters.
- Protecting Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine bases all over the world through advanced reconnaissance and security systems.
- Partnering with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to develop new radar displays and improve air traffic control at major airports.
- Helping the Air Force build portable air traffic systems to precisely target and land in difficult terrains like jungles and deserts.
- Creating new techniques to track small objects in space to enhance the safety of America's satellites.
Our Past Successes
You might already be familiar with some of our historic achievements, which still protect our nation. These programs are exciting prologues to where you can take us over the years ahead:
- Airborne Warning & Control System (AWACS): An airplane that provides a complete air traffic control network in the sky, anywhere in the world.
- Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS): An ESC premier program, Joint STARS uses a modified Boeing airplane with a highly sophisticated radar to provide real-time data on ground targets.
- Common Access Cards (CAC): Now used by many government and commerical organizations as the standard authentication mechanism for computers, networks and facilities. It enables encrypting and secure electronic email signatures.
